At 35, I Still Eat Cake For Breakfast

At 35, I Still Eat Cake For Breakfast

Pairs Well With…”Act as young as you feel.  You’re not getting older, you’re getting more entitled to be your fabulous self.” – Gwen Stefani

I love birthdays. If I have to get specific, my birthday. Growing up, we had a tradition in my house that you got to eat cake for breakfast on your birthday.  At 35, I still eat cake for breakfast.

Cake for Carin's Birthday

Today is my birthday, a birthday that I’ve not so positively anticipated over the last few years. I have fallen short of society’s expectations of me to have a husband and pop out a few kids. At times, I’ve felt anxious, stressed, judged and sometimes even flawed because I haven’t met what American culture deems as successful for a mid-thirties woman. And by successful, I specifically mean the marriage and kids bit.

Despite a booming career, deep social circles and a worldly background, much of what people seem to fixate on is why, “at my age” with “all I’ve got going on for me,” I am unmarried and without children. It’s hard for me to believe that people may be so narrow-minded that they think there’s only one path to happiness. But you know what they say, you can’t fix stupid.

Fall Into Forgiveness: The 1,000 Mile Roadtrip

Fall Into Forgiveness: The 1,000 Mile Roadtrip

Pairs Well With…”Forget what hurt you, but never forget what it taught you.”

Fall is a time of change and transition. It’s a good time to declutter, purge and start fresh. Sometimes things, even life, need a good overhaul once in a while. Because of the feeling that fall brings, it is easily my favorite time of year.

Last week, with Labor Day right around the corner, I decided I was going to purge my life of negativity or anything that even remotely looked like a Lifetime movie.  It’s got to go. See ya. That sh*t is not for me.  I need to make room for more important things like what my next career move is and what I will wear for my first home game in the new Vikings stadium.  Naturally, the things that matter.

The thing about switching it up is, you have to be willing to make moves.  Actually, you have to be willing to move.

So, I moved – at about 75 mph for 1,000 miles over five days in an effort to hit reset through a trip I hadn’t really planned on taking. As I hit the road, I found a larger purpose to the trip that I hadn’t anticipated.

I Never Saw It Coming…

I Never Saw It Coming…

Pairs Well With…”Take a Bow” by Rihanna

Where do I EVEN begin?!?!  There are no words, and I am beside myself.  BESIDE. My. Self. None.  I never deserved to be treated this way.  Ever.  In hindsight, you never deserved me in the first place.  And I am disgusted and sick to my stomach that I’ve encountered such bad, bad human behavior – and that doesn’t even begin to cover it.  But cheating does…

One Team, One Dream

One Team, One Dream

Pairs Well With…”All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled

Most of us aspire to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, especially when it comes to romance.  We all have the need to feel special, and with that comes a desire to belong to something more than just flying solo.  When I think of belonging, the first thing that comes to mind is being a part of a team, anything from sports to a social club to work to relationships.

All and all, we want people on our team who accept us for who we are, cheer us on when we’re striving for more and want to see us perform at our best.

We want someone to be there when we need them.  We want our own cheerleader.
