Malbec, Argentina’s claim to fame wine, is a go-to choice for both pairings and stand-alone sipping. I suppose it’s a great thing that I’m living in Argentina for the next two months, isn’t it? Malbec and I are bound to take our relationship to the next level and make some great memories during the time we have together.
If you’re an avid wine enthusiast like I am, you begin to think of wine as an always blossoming relationship, with new developments over time and with each sip. Now, add some food into the mix, and you’ve got yourself a surefire foodie dining experience.
Malbec is Argentina’s most widely known wine varietal. The country is the primary producer of Malbec in the world, with Mendoza, where I’ll visit next month, being the premier producer within the country.
A few need-to-knows about the all-famous Malbec:
Malbec’s Notable Regions: Argentina, France and Chile
Typical Flavor Notes: Dark berry and earthy flavors (blackberry, plum, black cherry)
Unique and Interesting Flavor Notes: Chocolate, mocha, pepper, vanilla, spice
Body: Medium to full body with bold, full flavor
Pairs Well With…
- Red meat
- Smoked dishes
- Rich, creamy and semi-soft cheeses (My favorite? Manchego!)
- Bold and spicy foods
What Meals Pair Well With Malbec?
That’s where I come in! Because I’m reporting live from Argentina, I’m able to dig in a bit deeper into the inner workings of the Malbec experience. I’ve had the opportunity to discuss, sip and sample with local wine distributors, sommeliers and restaurants, and have hand-selected recipes that pair well with the flavor profiles of an Argentinian Malbec.
So, whether you’ve got a bottle of Malbec on hand and want to give your meal a companion or you’re looking to try your hand in the kitchen with a new flavor forward recipe, you’ll be delighted with these delicious dishes.
